1) Wind Power, Birds, Bats, and the Great Lakes The U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, requests proposals for the Great Lakes Wind Power – Making it Wildlife-Friendly. This RFP will support projects addressing two data gaps in assessing the impact of wind power on migratory birds and bats: 1) Monitoring migratory bird and/or bat use of selected Great Lakes islands during fall 2011 and/or spring 2012 migration and conversion of the monitoring data into spatially explicit data; and 2) Digitization of datasets from historic spring and/or fall bird migration surveys that occurred along the shores of the U.S. Great Lakes or on islands within the U.S. Great Lakes. $100K expected to be available, multiple awards anticipated. Alongside integration of these areas, USDA specifically seeks farm and industrial demonstration(s) and analysis of using biodiesel to improve commercial grain and cellulosic ethanol production systems.
